Sadness

It was a white room,

completely filled with light;

metaphysical and ethereal.

Radiation dye off from a dead star dream.

Tiny triangle of space,

prismatic upon entrance of the scene,

coal—diamond,

a black door opening, shapeshifting—

enter Sadness.

It walked in about a quarter past eleven.

Dark and empty,

the shapeshifter takes off a hat

and smiles with very sharp teeth.

In my scariest nightmares,

I am always sad and crying.

But the sadness does not have

to break your heart.

We can share feelings

without ever touching one another.

The empty space between you and I;

what are we but light

searching for somewhere to belong.
